Pancake is VUR-free

Today, Pancake had another ultrasound and VCUG to determine if she still has vesicourteral reflux (VUR is a pediatric condition that causes urine to flow backwards from the bladder to the kidneys).  She does not have it any longer.

The VCUG went differently than last year.  This time she didn't mind having the catheter inserted or the x-ray machine lowered over her little torso.  What she did mind was being made to pee on command and not being able/willing to do it.  The nurse filled her bladder with fluid via the catheter then we all (two doctors, the nurse and I) waited for her to pee.  We encouraged her with words (1, 2, 3, pee and relax and let the pee come out), with noises (running water), and with touch (warm water being squirted on her feet and pelvis).  Nothing worked.  I sang to her, I held her hands, I rubbed her forehead while she screamed and claimed that she didn't have to pee, even though the x-ray monitor told us that her bladder was completely full.  Finally, after about 20 minutes of waiting she peed and the doctor saw that no urine went back up toward her kidney.  It just came out of her body the way it is supposed to.

So she will not have to have antibiotic every night before bed any more!  I didn't expect it to resolve itself as quickly as it did.  It can take a few years or at least a potty-trained kid.  Yay!
